About Us

Since 1878, there has been a life-saving station on the coast of Virginia Beach run by the Coast Guard, within walking distance of Virginia Beach United Methodist Church. As times changed and technology evolved, the service station has fallen out of use, but the impact that foundation had on our community and our church has not. Currently, Virginia Beach continues to grow and reach new people to bring into the community, and so we at Virginia Beach UMC also want to grow and reach new people to bring into our church family. New ideas, new events, and new changes are on the horizon in order for us to shine God’s light to all people. To this day, Virginia Beach United Methodist Church pulls from those life-saving roots when it reaches out into the community to, like a lighthouse, shine God’s light in all directions.

In the future, we will have waves on both sides of our building, and in order to be the lighthouse we have to be shining our light 360° all around us. Therefore, we hope to continue growing and bringing in new people to help strengthen our church’s faith life.

1. Serving our neighbors. This church was once used as a life-saving station. Now? It still is! Through community outreach, local and global missions, and a missions-focused mindset, Virginia Beach United Methodist Church strives to serve God by serving others.

2. Vibrant Worship. We believe that your style of worship shouldn’t impact your ability to connect with the Lord. We offer three different worship experiences in a range of styles, so that no one misses out on the saving grace of God!

3. Life giving relationships. No one can do this life alone! Virginia Beach United Methodist Church seeks to be a community-driven, connection-focused, collaboratively-minded group of people who can support, encourage, and build each other up as we go through life.

4. Growing Spiritually. We believe in the significance of learning more about God, and we want to have a faith that runs deeper and stronger than just idle words. Virginia Beach United Methodist Church has plenty of resources for challenging, strengthening, and uplifting one’s faith.
