“Sometimes we are alone at night and wonder if anyone cares and we cry.  Knowing someone cares gives us hope, a reason to live.  HOPE has given me this.”
Comment from a HOPE participant

HOPE IN THE UPPER ROOM, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization consisting of those who are homeless and formerly homeless and their friends from the community who come together with the goal of changing the face of homeless and offering a hand up, not a hand out.

HOPE IN THE UPPER ROOM meets weekly on Thursdays at 12:30 PM at the Potter’s House.  Many activities have come out of this group.  Vets Helping Vets meets on Mondays to serve homeless veterans. Also on Mondays we visit a local nursing home, giving Hope members an opportunity to forget about their own challenges as they lovingly care for others. On Tuesdays we have Renegade Recovery, an AA sanctioned meeting, and HOPE Art.  Emotions Anonymous meets at the church Tuesday afternoons.  Wednesdays (in season) are set aside to work in the HOPE Goden (garden) at Star of the Sea Catholic Church.  On designated Saturdays, the group gathers outside Potter’s House to give back to the community through service; typically targeting areas in the oceanfront community in need of litter pickup.

Hope in the Upper Room offers numerous opportunities to minister to those in need. We have a need for volunteers to help organize meetings, coach members on job search and life skills, provide occasional transportation, assist with publicity and fundraising, and share fellowship with those living on the street.  Contact Jennifer Vaughan at 757-428-7727 for more information.
