Virginia Beach United Methodist Church uses a gifts-based approach to ministry and service.  Next Steps Consultants help us discover our spiritual gifts, interests/passions, and talents so we can feel the joy and blessing of opening our heart, stepping out, and answering God’s call to service.

Next Steps Consultants utilize the computer and prayerful consultation to match individuals to volunteer positions based on their God-given spiritual gifts, talents, passions, and personal style. It is all about people serving in areas where God is calling them to be of service.  When persons serve where they are called (a ministry they are interested in where they use their skills and abilities, and in a work environment that is comfortable and non-threatening for their personal style) people are more productive and happier! It makes sense! God wants us to be joyful in our service and participation!

In this computer age, it is exciting that technology enables individuals to be matched to positions and tasks that suit them best. But while the computer and Email assist in the process, the most important element remains prayerful discernment, human interaction, and communication. Have you ever volunteered and never been contacted to serve? The computer database permits follow-up and provides administrative services to assist ministry leaders, which makes for better and faster communication regarding participation and service opportunities between visitors, new members, and the congregation.
