Adult Discipleship

Adult Sunday School Class / Bible Study Teacher or Co-Teacher	Responsibilities: Prepare for each class; teach class on Biblical teachings; promote spiritual growth by being sensitive to the spiritual needs of the class; provide for social interaction/fellowship outside the classroom; develop personal spiritual life; and pray for class members. Adult Sunday School Secretary	Responsibilities: Collect Sunday School attendance and offerinf from each Adult, Youth, and Children's Sunday School class. Care and Support

Emotions Anonymous Coordinator	Responsibilities: Emotions Anonymous is a 12-step support group for people going through depression, anxiety attacks, emotional problems, etc. who want to learn tools that help with recovery. Stephen Minister	Responsibilities: Stephen Ministry provides a one-on-one caring ministry by trained lay members of our congregation. Children's Ministry

Care by Community After School Snack Provider	Responsibilities: Provide homemade snack for Care by Community After School Program (see description below) on scheduled date before 2 PM. Care by Community After School Volunteer	Care by Community is an after-school program for homeless and "at-risk" students from our neighboring schools who participate to receive help with homework, school projects, reading, and other academic needs. The children then have some recreation time to play games and have fun. Afterwards, they are fed a hot meal and taken home. The program was created to help not only the students but to allow their parents to work later into the evenings. The CBC Program has proven to help improve students' grades, behavior, and over-all self esteem. It also helps families helps themselves and pull themselves out of homelessness. Responsibilities: Help children with homework and school projects; read to students or listen to students read. Children's Church Volunteer	Responsibilities: Volunteer receives an Email at home with the Children’s Sermon for the upcoming Sunday (it is NOT necessary to memorize the sermon). Finance

Title	Description
Finance Committee Member	Responsibilities: Participate in the overseeing of all financial matters including budget approval and recommendations, helping monitor monthly receipts and expenses, plus any other fiscal matters that are pertinent. Board Members are appointed by the Lay Leadership Committee annually in September. Persons interested in serving in this capacity are welcome to submit their names to the Administrative Assistant in the church office prior to September. Spiritual Gifts: Administration/Leadership Schedule: Monthly meetings and called meeting of the Finance Committee. Length of Commitment: 4 years.
Teller	Responsibilities: This involves working with 1 of 4 teams on Monday mornings (or Tuesday morning if Monday is a church holiday) for the purpose of counting the receipts from church services and assuring the proper and honest designation of these funds. Spiritual Gifts: Helps/Assistance Schedule: Monday mornings for 2-3 hours approximately 13 times per year. Length of Commitment: 1 year minimum.
VBUMC Foundation Committee Member	Responsibilities: Communicate and publicize opportunities for people to make provisions for giving to church by means of wills, annuities, trusts, life insurance, memorials, and various types of property. Receive, maintain, and administer assets in perpetuity exclusively for religious, charitable, and educational purposes and to use and apply the whole or any part of the assets and income for such purposes. Invest funds responsibly and disburse them as needed. Committee Members are appointed by the Lay Leadership Committee annually in September. Leisure Ministries

Title	Description
Baskets by the Sea	Centuries ago sailors spent the tedious hours aboard ship creating intricate baskets. Come learn the traditional art of basketry and enjoy fellowship. Schedule: Thursdays from 9:30 - 11:30 AM in the Fellowship Hall.
Co-Ed Softball	VBUMC currently sponsors a co-ed softball team in the city recreation church league. It is open to men and women age 18 and over. All skill levels are represented. Come join us for this clean family atmosphere and excellent Christian fellowship. Families are encouraged to come and cheer the team. Schedule: The team meets for practice one night per week beginning in April. Double-header games are played on Monday nights from May through mid-July.
Co-Ed Volleyball	A coed volleyball team is sponsored to participate in the city recreational league. The emphasis is on fellowship, encouragement, and building skills more than high-powered competition. Even with this emphasis, the team has made it to the finals the past several years! Schedule: The season runs from January through March.
Duplicate Bridge	Duplicate Bridge is offered each week in the Fellowship Hall. Experienced players are welcomed to bring a lunch and a partner. Beginners are encouraged to seek additional information. Schedule: Monday mornings from 9:30AM - 1:30PM
Men's Basketball	VBUMC currently sponsors a men's basketball team in the city recreation church league. All skill levels are represented and anyone interested is welcome. Schedule: The team plays from January to March. The team also has a weekly open gym night from September to November on Monday nights from 7:30pm - 9:30pm at Cooke Elementary School.
Men's Softball	Beach United Methodist currently sponsors a men's softball team in the city recreation church league. All skill levels are represented. Come join us for this clean family atmosphere and excellent Christian fellowship. Families are encouraged to come and cheer the team. Schedule: The team meets for practice one night per week beginning in April. Double-header games are played on Monday nights from May through mid-July.
Surf Ministry Participants	Surf lessons for everyone ages 6 - 99! Bring your surfboard or one will be provided. Schedule: Saturdays in July; 9:30 - 11:30 AM on 4th Street.
Surf Ministry Volunteer	Responsibilities: All skill levels are needed to help guide beginning surfers! Catch beginning surfers in the surf, leas surfboards, and visit and invite ministry participants to church and fellowship. Schedule: Saturdays in July; 9:30 - 11:30 AM on 4th Street.
Wood-Carving Class	This group of men and women enjoy woodcarving as a hobby. Experience is not required. Participants enjoy the fellowship and exchange of ideas while carving.
